Staff Therapist

Pam Curtis is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist who leads Mind/Body Healing for Trauma groups for adults at Esperanza. Pam has worked with eating disorder patients since 2006 both in private practice and in partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. Eating disorders often occur as coping mechanisms for trauma, which led Pam to intensive study of trauma treatment. Pam was a staff therapist at EDCASA: Eating Disorder Center at San Antonio and at Eating Recovery Center. She earned a Master of Education in Counseling from the University of Texas in Austin, was intensively trained by Behavioral Tech in DBT in 2007 and has completed training in ACT and CPT.

To help patients feel greater validation, Pam approaches trauma from the perspective that everyone has experienced some degree of trauma in their life. She has found that both trauma and eating disorders CAN be healed if skills and tools are used diligently, if a mind/body approach is employed, and if one learns the importance of committed and compassionate self-care.
