This presentation will explore the research commonly thought to support food addiction. Using an approach that does not stigmatize weight, food, or body, education will be provided to help reframe perceptions of a complicated relationship with food. This presentation will explore the Yale Food Addiction Scale, biological vs chemical addictions, and approaches to help support clients who identify with food addiction while doing no harm and “doing no shame.”
The 3 objectives of this presentation:
- Verbalize why the addiction model is not used with food.
- Respond to reports of food addiction with evidence-based information.
- Identify next steps to working with clients who identify with food addiction.
